History

Mental Health - Our History

Our Medical Group was incorporated in 1977 to provide behavioral medicine to individuals in need of mental health services. Pathways to Wellness Medication Clinics was founded in 2000 by Hiawatha Harris, M.D., Medical Director, and Neisha Becton, M.A., Executive Director, to meet a significant need within our mental health community. Pathways to Wellness is designed to provide a vital link in the spectrum of services available to children, adolescents, and adults requiring mental health management. Staffed by Board Certified Psychiatrists, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Clinical Pharmacists, Nurses, Licensed Clinicians, and Case Managers, our clinics provide services that are intended to afford significant relief from the symptoms of mental illness to facilitate our patient’s ability to return or remain in the community, and to avoid treatment at higher levels of care.

Pathways to Wellness has provided 25 years of specialty mental health services to individuals in Alameda County communities.

Diversity

“We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color”

Maya Angelou

Diversity is central to our mission and the clients we serve at Pathways to Wellness. Embracing diversity means understanding, respecting, and valuing individual differences-whether visible or invisible-including, but not limited to, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, language, and age. We are committed to providing services that are culturally and linguistically appropriate to ensure equitable and effective care for all.

Diversity

One of our greatest strengths is our ability to recognize and apply diverse perspectives, skills, and talents across all our clinics and departments. Additionally, our commitment to recruiting professionals from all ethnic and cultural backgrounds has enabled us to better serve our clients within their communities.

We are proud of our diverse team of medical staff, support staff, and leadership at Pathways to Wellness. Every individual plays a vital role in helping us achieve our mission and deliver the highest quality of care.
